The temple achieved the sacred zones in the heart of all, especially in those of the Vaishnava traditions.

Jagannath Puri Temple was built by the Ganga dynasty king in the 12th century CE. Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra are the auspicious trio of deities that is worshipped at the temple. # Jagannath Temple History

The story behind this temple is still in the heart of all. The original image of Jagannath was manifested near a banyan tree in a form of Indranila mani or Blue Jewel. The jewel was dazzling enough to grant instant moksha therefore the God Dharma or Yama wanted to hide it in the earth and was successful.

The Malwa wanted to find that mysterious image and to do so he performed penance. Lord Vishnu then instructed him to go to the Puri seashore and find a floating log to make an image from its trunk.

Vishnu Appearance in Jagannath Puri Temple

The king found the log and performed yajna from which God Yajna Nrisimha appeared and instructed that Narayana should be made as a fourfold expansion. When the log was seen with radiant light, Narada told the king to make three idols out of it and place them in the pavilion. The architect was Indradyumna, Vishnu appeared in the form of a carpenter with one condition of being left undisturbed until he finished the work.

But the queen became anxious. She thought the carpenter to be dead as no sound came from the temple. She then requested the king to open the door and Vishnu after seeing this abandoned the work leaving idols unfinished. Idols are devoid of hands but still got installed in the temple.
