Tradition of Storytelling in Asia

Elevating its status as a prominent storytelling extravaganza in India, the festival continues to captivate audiences with enchanting narratives delivered by musicians and storytellers from around the globe. Delve into the rich tapestry of storytelling traditions, such as Naghali from Iran, where storytellers, known as naghals, intricately weave tales in verse or prose, embodying characters and emotions within the vibrant setting of coffee houses, or Ghahvekhanehs.

Venturing into Central Asia, the festival sheds light on Turkic epics, known as dastans, which serve not only as oral histories but also as integral components of Turkic literature. These epic tales play a vital role in preserving ethnic identity and history, embodying complete value systems for the communities they represent.

Adding a harmonious note to the cultural symphony, Korean P’Ansori, or “story singing,” takes center stage, sharing tales from Korea with origins dating back to the reign of Sukchong (1675-1720).

The festival’s previous editions have artfully woven together a myriad of storytelling genres, from history and romance to mysticism, mystery, and an exclusive children’s segment.

Diverse folk art performances and fusion musical forms have contributed to the spectacle, and the much-anticipated 5th edition promises to amplify the vibrancy with an infusion of more stories, spoken words, and music.
